Abstract

This thesis examines conceptual metaphor models as a cognitive tool in English political discourse. Political discourse is not limited to the transfer of information; it also structures public understanding, shapes ideological positions, and influences collective interpretation of political reality. In this process, conceptual metaphor models function as an important cognitive mechanism through which abstract political processes are represented in more concrete and familiar terms. The study analyzes the theoretical foundations of conceptual metaphor within cognitive linguistics and its discursive role in English political communication. Special attention is paid to the ways metaphorical models such as politics as war, politics as journey, and the state as a body organize meaning, simplify complexity, and enhance persuasive force. The findings show that conceptual metaphor models guide interpretation, frame events, legitimize political decisions, and affect the audience’s cognitive and emotional response. The study concludes that metaphorical modeling should be regarded as one of the central cognitive-discursive instruments in English political discourse.
