Abstract

Gamification has become an increasingly significant pedagogical approach in English language teaching because it combines instructional objectives with game-design elements such as points, badges, levels, challenges, progress indicators, and immediate feedback. This thesis examines how gamification can influence learner motivation, participation, language practice, and achievement. The study is based on qualitative analysis of established research on gamification, second-language learning, and educational psychology. The findings indicate that well-designed gamified activities can strengthen engagement, encourage repeated practice, support vocabulary and grammar acquisition, and create a more interactive learning environment. However, positive outcomes depend on pedagogical alignment, learner characteristics, meaningful feedback, and balanced use of competition and collaboration.
